The Municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract and the MRC Pontiac Council of Mayors passed resolutions of support for a proposition made by the Pontiac Technology Centre &  Resort (PTCR) Group for the development of a green technology incubator in Mansfield.

“This support expresses the confidence and ambition of our elected officials with regards to the quality and relevance of this project for our community,” said Rémi Bertrand, MRC Pontiac’s Executive Director, who adds that the impact of the project will be felt well beyond MRC borders. “It will radiate throughout the Ottawa Valley.”

PTCR aims to develop an area with the necessary facilities and resources to attract and accommodate more than 100 young companies on Pontiac territory. The Group is therefore planning a centre of excellence incubator of green technology development. And, to provide a quality of life and retain highly skilled labour, the project includes the creation of education and entertainment infrastructure in a quality family environment.

This is an important project for the Pontiac. “By 2020, green technologies will be the world’s 3rd industrial sector. The MRC Pontiac wishes to play an important role in this technological change,” said Bertrand.

Ensuring a successful transition with the Pontiac community and local ownership of the project are core values of the PTCR team. For these reasons, PTCR Group will hold public meetings and make presentations to citizens in a timely manner.

  1. I am happy to see a new ‘green technology’ project coming to the Pontiac to promote jobs yet maintain and protect our clean (non- industry) environmental. I am wondering how much land does PTCR plan to purhase in the Pontiac and what municipalities other than Mansfield will benefit from this new venture.
Pontiac is such a natural unspoiled beauty with so many natural resources with our fresh water lakes and our mountains, throughout. It’s nice to see other people (PTCR) see the Pontiac as such and respect it in maintaing it so..
It would be so helpful to our economically oppressed area if alot of people benefited from this project!.A response would beappreciated . Thank you for your time.

    • Thank you for your comments and interest in this project. Note that it is still in its infancy stage and that additional information will be communicated as it becomes available. That said, we can confirm that the proposed project would benefit all of Pontiac and beyond.

  2. i honestly think their is something realy fishy going on and they are not telling us the truth. It’s to good to be true.i read about green tech and i believe it has something to do with recycling, lets hope its not other cities garbage.

  3. Rumour has it this will come with a whole bunch of new retail development (including a Wal-Mart!?) as well. Sounds like a great opportunity for Nationalist propaganda/porkbarreling to me, but whatever, we’re used to it. I guess they finally got sick of Quebecers taking their shopping dollars to Pembroke and Renfrew, eh?

  4. Interesting why does it take Americans to raise capital and advance projects. Can we Canadians not put together something on a smaller scale that would make financial sense and be profitable. The Americans can not raise capital due to the real estate crash in the United States presently so they are in Canada looking for new opportunities to profit from areas where we could be talked into changing zoning laws and controlling the municipalities with promises of lots of cash, and getting governments to foot some of the bill. They picked this region for a reason,it is one of the poorest regions per capita in North America, and with the closing and dismantling of the Smurfit-Stone pulp mill, they know they can bargin very easily. Harpreet Atwal currently serves on the board of directors of Centerpointe Investments Inc., a private equity firm based in White Rock, BC .Mr. Atwal has been a senior banker and entrepreneur for the past 15 years. Mr. Atwal is a private real estate investor and has built an extensive portfolio over the past 10 years. Mr.Bartlet is also the CEO of Clearant Inc,which specializes in eliminating viruses in blood products and bone transplants. Clearant has been in trouble financially the last couple of years and had loans from Centerpointe Investments to the tune of 2 million dollars..After investigating this to see if this Pontiac story was for real I have come to this conclusion. The municipilities and mayors would be wise to hire some high priced lawyers to go over any proposal and not sign any deal too quick. If Centerpoint Investments is worth billions and ready to invest in Pontiac let them advance you some money for good faith. The question we should be asking ourselves is why are they really here and where is the money coming from.

  5. I as a Mansfield resident and tax payer would like to know more about these future (plans) in Mansfield Quebec. The stories we heard sounds great, for us,for our kids, our business, for everything and every body. But the big question is,,,, are those for real? are they rumors? or is this another scam to get people’s hope up? or is this is another scam to get to pick up investors?
Pontiac residents should question this project, because of past promises that never happened such as: factories, hospital (Mansfield) different kinds of mills etc.
Is this project going to benefit every day working JO? ( not likely ) or is it just another empty promise to raise taxes and hopes?
PS:show the people proof of this promise project if there is any…..

  6. This project will benifit the local residents if they can continue to live in the area. I have a cottage and love the area. The problem is i won’t be able to afford the property tax. There has been a 100% increase this year. So much for retireing in the area.

  7. Were will the expertise comes from ? I am suprised that there are a lot in the Pontiac of this kind. Look ahead, a project of this size will take up to 10 years to built. What is the majority of the age in the pontiac ? There are only a limitted amount of persons that will work the construction field and those jobs are not permanent. If the town have the qualified persons for this field of work, well they are working out of town since there is no such of work in FC. The other source of person will work at a lower level of income and it will be more difficult to live than now. The minicipal taxes are already goin up without a project that havent started yet.

In other words, For some it is a huge revenue in taxes for the town and those revenues should be suffisiant to help the entire town without having an impact on property taxes to the population already living in FC. The infrastructures are paid by the owner not the town, why would pay more ? .

I have doubts, real doubts behind this one. Were you aware that the US is runnig out of water and they are extremely thursty ? beware ! I may be wrong here but what if ? …
